Maple leaves from a tree near my home, an display of the gorgeous autumn colors.
Seeing the colored leaves of the maple tree just across the road from my front door, I couldn’t resist and arranged some of them for this photograph.

An outlook from a decaying outpost at Pico del Ingles.
This continues the Tenerife series with new images from a second trip to Tenerife during our autumn vacation. After the ghosttown this ruined, decaying building at Pico del Ingles featured an interesting mix of light, shadows and landscape.
Back to Hallig Gröde after a short visit to the mainland.
This year, Rainer’s new boat was finally in operation, so I took the opportunity to join for a short trip to and from Schlüttsiel.
The early bird gets the gorgeous soft morning light.
Actually, this is a step backwards in time, two days before the last image here. Maybe the Velvia look of this scene in 2003 is more atmospheric? Well, let’s see what Photoshop can do … ;-) There has been a pause in the Gröde images here, because I’ve been messing around with the database structure und application for creating the entries, see the SLISH project for more details. If something on this site went awry, please let me know.
A nice pastel-colored sunrise on the next morning.
View from the east jetty towards Hallig Habel and the main land. Within this mood, even the notorious wind generators are somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
And one more thing.
An assortment of images, both from last year and more from this year, can be found on the album page Kölner Lichter.
Quite spectacular with the Hollenzollern Bridge in the foreground.
Last year, I took some images of the fireworks from a position in the southern city, not really optimal. So this year I went to the Zoo Bridge, which was somewhat crowed in the end, but gives a phantastic view.
Since the start in 2001, the fireworks are now a major summer attraction.
Start of the main fireworks of the “Kölner Lichter” on the Rhine between the Hohenzollern Bridge and the Deutzer Bridge.
A familiar place, providing a beautiful setting for the sunrise, the eastern excavation pit.
This view was already portraited here in the PhotoLog. But somehow the scene from two years ago with just the right amount of stagnant water couldn’t be re-created. This pit was once excavated for the ring dyke around the Knudswarft.
On the far side of the conveyor belt, curved traces form interesting patterns.
Detail of the “miniature moraines” remaining of the excavator work in this area.
