Schon seit einiger Zeit im werden, ist das Projekt “Strom” zu einem Zwischenstand gekommen, der mit tatkräftiger Hilfe von Karl v. Westerholt zu einem wunderbaren Fotobuch gereift ist.

Das Fotobuch Strom wurde bei Blurb veröffentlicht, dort kann man es käuflich erwerben oder einfach durch die Seiten blättern. Und die komplette Serie in der Buchreihenfolge ist natürlich auch hier unter Gallery > Photography > Projects > Strom zu finden.

NGC 1493 and SN 2024abfo Full Frame

The full frame around NGC 1493 with supernova SN 2024abfo, see marker, and a plethora of smaller galaxies, see the annotated version below.

This image combines RGB data from Nov, more than 12h Ha Data from Nov/Dec and L data from 01 Dec until 09 Dec 2024. Maximum brightness of the supernova was on 06 Dec 2024 at 13.81 mag (L), so this image portraits the supernova around maximum. There was actually not much signal in the Ha data, so the contribution is rather small.

Supernova SN 2024abfo continued

Since the previous post, SN 2024abfo‘s brightness has been increasing steadily until yesterday. Peak was during the night 06 Dec 2024, with 13.81 mag. Since discovery by ATLAS on 15 Nov 2024 with 16.79 mag, it’s brightness increased more than fifteenfold!

Supernova SN 2024abfo

Supernova SN 2024abfo in Galaxy NGC 1493 – 18 Nov 2024 – LRGB v1

Recently, a new type II supernova SN 2024abfo was discovered in the galaxy NGC 1493, on 2024-11-15 by ATLAS, discovery mag 16.793.

This image is processed data from 2024-11-18, I managed to image NGC 1493 and SN 2024abfo on 2024-11-17 and 2024-11-18 so far. Measurements of L brightness in Tycho yields:

2024-11-17: 16.82 – 16.91 mag (median, 2 batches, not reliable, passing clouds)
2024-11-18: 16.70 – 16.64 mag (median, 5 batches)

Gum 68 / Sh2-13 / RCW 133 – Emission Nebula in Scorpius – HSS w/RGB Stars v1

Took me a while to create something with presentable colors from the narrowband data of this obscure nebula in Scorpius, the previous H-alpha black and white version was easier.

This is a bicolor image with R=H-alpha, G=SII, B=SII and mainly H-alpha with a bit of SII used as luminance, plus calibrated RGB stars screened on-top.

A lesser known object, the Cometary Globule GN 16.43.7.01, nick-named Dark Tower gained some popularity, especially since ESO’s publication of an image taken with the VLT.

Almost Super Color Ful(l) Moon

Almost Super Color Ful(l) Moon 2024-08-19 20:03 UT

Last night’s full moon at 20:03 UT, almost a super moon, i.e. a full moon at perigee, which will be on 2024-08-21 5:05 UT at a distance of 360193 km. Two days earlier, the Moon here is at declination -14.7°, a distance of 364578 km, aged 13.8 d with the canoncial full moon at 18:28 UT. Combined RGB exposures with heavily boosted colors.
