New Design and License

It is the "newmjs" theme already used for the gallery, a plain somewhat sepia-toned environment for the images. After almost three years, the old "altschloss" theme simply had to be retired.

Along the way, I slightly changed the license. It's still Creative Commons, but now "no derivs", the BY-NC-ND license.

Extended Cologne Album, Print

During the last days, I've started to rework a number of last year's digital images from Cologne. These can be found on the extended Cologne album page.

All of these images are also available as high quality Epson K3 inkjet prints, on matte, luster, or glossy paper. Contact me if you're interested.

Navigation

Flipping through the photolog images starting with the front page is now easier, clicking on the image will get you to the previous one. The "More ..." links point to the pages with the detailed image descriptions and the full sidebar menu.

Site Changes, Flickr, Mostly Gray

During the last weeks, I've been messing around with the database structure and the tools for maintaining this site and the photolog entries. See the SLISH project for more details. I hope that everything still works as expected. If not, please let me know.

Then I've playing around with flickr, some of my images can be found at n0ll's photos. If you feel so inclined, please live a comment there. The main advantage of flickr is the availability of various tools, uploading images is a snap.

And there is a new photoblog my me, Mostly Gray focussing on black and white photography, which I'm getting into more and more. This new site is an experiment in using flickr and Blogger in combination, which seems to work quite well.

Thumbnail Links Fixed

Due to some changes lately, the thumbnails on some album pages such as the Tenerife 2004 page had broken links. This is now fixed. Thanks to visitor Mirjana D. for pointing this out.

New Things

Quite a number of improvements to the web site happened during the last few months, but none of them made it to this news. ;-) So what's new?

"Stories": as most of the PhotoLog entries are part of some series or stories, the database now supports this structure. The first two stories are the photographs from the trips to Hallig Gröde in 2004 and to Tenerife in 2005.

Captions and keywords: I spent a lot of time on hacking my photo database and the related tools, which are part of the SLISH project. Among others the database now supports captions and keywords for the non-PhotoLog images in the albums. I'll add them to the already existing images as time permits. The album page Cologne - Buchheim is the first with these fields.

RSS: the PhotoLog now supports an RSS feed.

Digital: as you may have noticed, since last Xmas I switched to the "Digital World" with my new toy, the Canon EOS 20D. From the experience so far, this was a step in the right direction and should've been taken already two years ago. ;-) The only thing I really miss is the eye controlled focus of my beloved EOS 30.

Sidebar Menu Improved for IE

The sidebar menu has been changed, the previous version was causing problems with Internet Explorer. Anyway, if you're stil using IE, you might consider migrating to a decent browser for various reasons. ;-)

Added PhotoLog Image Navigation, Going Digital

Its now easier to page between the various photolog images, using the <<< and >>> links in the PhotoLog menu.

Until now, I was using a hybrid approach to photography, taking images the old-fashioned way with slide or negative film, then scanning the result with further digital processing. Now that my EOS 20D arrived (thanks, Santa! ;-) more and more images here will be totally in the digital domain. For a start see the winter mini series: [1] [2] [3] [4]

Started Integration of Old mj's Photography

The main page http://www.m-j-s.net/photo/ is now somewhat integrated into the new web site.

mj's PhotoLog is now also listed at PhotoBLog. If you like it, why not register there and add me to your favourites? ;-)

Albums now Include Pages, Foto Community

Added code to support page structures in albums, so that there is a better overview of an album than just a bunch of thumbsnail. The Gröde album is the first one to use the new page structure.

Some of my photographs are now also posted at the German FotoCommunity Site in the various sections and my FotoHome there. Feel to use this site for comments and critiques of my work.

New Creative Commons License 2.0

I changed the licensing of the photographs and the web site content to the Creative Commons License 2.0. Nothing dramatic, the rules are basically the same. You can use either the Generic Creative Commons License or the German Creative Commons License.

In a nutshell: you may only use the photos with ATTRIBUTION (my name and link to http://photo.m-j-s.net/), for NON-COMMERCIAL PURPOSE, and your content, the derived work, must be SHARED ALIKE using the same Creative Commons License (either 1.0 or 2.0, Generic or German).

If you want to use the photographs in any other context, commercially or non-commercially, please contact me.

Recently, I started to actively use the photo.net web site, in my opinion one of the best photography resources on the Internet.

In my portfolio at photo.net you'll find some of the photos also posted here available for rating and comments, which are very much welcome. In particular, there is a Hallig Gröde presentation with some photos from the Gröde album.

New Albums

Image description now contain more technical data, focal length and aperture if available.

And there a two more albums: trees containing some tree photos from the recent visit to the Cologne zoo, and zoo containing a variety of animal photos from visits to the Cologne zoo in 2003 and 2004.

New Design Online

After some more tests today the new design is now online. Additionally, all pages now contains buttons to validate the XHTML und CSS source using the W3C validation services.

New Design

The mj's PhotoLog site has been redesigned with a totally new layout, using the Altschloss theme. The background image is part of a photograph from the location "Altschloßfelsen" in the Pfälzerwald series. (The actual photograph is not included in the album here.)
